The Next Big Thing is a Google Ecosystem

Right now, tens of thousands of people are checking out 20,000 new products from 3,100 companies at CES 2012 (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas. Wish I was there. But I just did the next best thing. I watched a recording of a CES 2012 Super Session called, CNET Presents the Next Big Thing in CE.

According to CNET, the Ecosystem is the next best thing at CES this year. They’re not talking about global warming. They’re talking about a consumer electronics ecosystem where we’re always connected no matter where we are or what device we’re using. An Ecosytem with a seamless connection between the hardware, the content, the operating system, and the apps we use.

After listening to the panelists of the “CNET Presents the Next Big Thing in CE” session, I’m convinced that Google, not Apple, will dominate the future of the consumer electronics Ecosystem.

According to the panelists of “CNET Presents the Next Big Thing in CE” session, the future doesn’t belong to the company with the best devices (Apple). The future belongs to the company that can get devices to seamlessly synch within the Ecosystem (Google + Samsung).

The Panelists:

  • Eric Schmidt – Executive Chairman, Google
  • Tim Baxter – President, Consumer Electronics Division, Samsung Electronics America
  • Bill Gurley – General Partner , Benchmark Capital
  • Blake Krikorian – CEO, id8 Group, Sling Media

Get some popcorn, watch the session, and let me know if you agree that Google’s Ecosystem will rule.

In my next post, I’ll cover the highlights from the session and why I believe that Apple will soon be second fiddle to Google.
