Working at an IT staffing agency, I can tell you that presentation is everything, especially in an interview. What you wear and how you present yourself can have a real impact on how you are perceived in those first few moments of meeting a potential employer. Why not put your best face forward?
If you have made it to the interview stage, chances are that the employer is already interested in you based on your resume. The interview is your chance to wow an employer with things about yourself that you can’t get down on paper.
What to Wear to an Interview
People generally form an opinion of someone within the first 20 seconds of meeting them. How you dress, the way you smile, and your handshake mould your first impression for better or worse.
Meeting a possible future employer for the first time, you want to show respect for the opportunity of being considered for a job. Typically, you should dress formally, whether the business is a more casual work environment or not. Wearing jeans won’t cut it.
While appearance is important, it doesn’t mean you need to spend thousands of dollars on a suit. Getting a less expensive suit and then having it tailored can be just as effective.
